How Dalhousie University calculates GPA
Dalhousie University (Nova Scotia) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Dalhousie grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Dalhousie uses a 4.3 scale: A+ = 4.3 (a boost above 4.0), A = 4.0, A- = 3.7, etc.
Failing grade: Dalhousie University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Repeated-course and academic-standing rules are set by Dalhousie's faculties; confirm with your faculty.
Academic standing
Dean's List and honours thresholds are set by faculty.
Good to know
Dalhousie uses a 4.3 scale where A+ = 4.3, slightly different from UBC's 4.33 and from the 4.0-capped schools. As with all >4.0 scales, state the scale when reporting your GPA to US schools so an A+ isn't read as a plain 4.0.
