GPA scales by country

Convert a GPA between the 4.0, 5.0, 7.0 and 10.0 grading scales. Plus how inverted scales like Germany's differ.

Convert between scales

Common grading scales

This converter rescales a value linearly between point-based maxima — useful for the scales below, where a higher number means a better grade.

  • 4.0 — US / Canada
  • 5.0 — US weighted / Singapore CAP
  • 7.0 — Australia
  • 10.0 — India

Scales this converter does not handle

Some systems aren't a simple max-to-max ratio and a linear converter would give wrong answers for them:

  • Germany (1.0–5.0, inverted) — here 1.0 is the best grade and ~4.0 is the minimum pass, so the scale runs the opposite direction. It needs an inverted, piecewise mapping rather than a linear ratio.
  • Letter and classification systems (US A–F, UK First/2:1/2:2) — use the GPA calculator's scale selector, which maps each grade to points directly.
  • Country credential conversions (India, China, France → US GPA) — use the CGPA to US GPA (WES method) tool, which is credit-weighted rather than a flat rescale.
