Why your GPA needs converting
US universities read grades on a 4.0 scale. If your transcript is in CGPA, percentage, or a national letter system, admissions offices — and especially graduate programmes — will either recalculate it or ask you to submit a credential evaluation. Getting an accurate estimate early tells you which programmes are realistic before you spend money on applications.
For graduate (Master's / PhD) applicants
Most US grad programmes expect roughly a US 3.0 minimum, with competitive and funded programmes looking for 3.3–3.5+. Many require a course-by-course WES or ECE evaluation sent directly to the school. For undergraduate applicants
Freshman and transfer applicants are usually evaluated on their secondary-school record and any completed college credit. Requirements vary widely by school — check each university's international-admissions page, and use our per-country converters below for a planning estimate.
Which credential evaluator do you need?
The main US services are WES (most widely accepted), ECE, SpanTran, and Educational Perspectives. For grad school, choose a course-by-course report (it produces a GPA); for some undergrad or licensing uses a document-by-document report is enough. Always confirm which evaluator and report type your target school accepts — they are not interchangeable.
