How middle school GPA works
Middle school GPA is almost always unweighted on the 4.0 scale: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0. Most middle schools give every class equal weight and don't add honors or AP bumps, so your GPA is simply the average of your grade points:

Worked example
Five classes: Math (A = 4.0), English (A− = 3.7), Science (B = 3.0), Social Studies (A = 4.0), PE (A = 4.0). GPA = (4.0 + 3.7 + 3.0 + 4.0 + 4.0) ÷ 5 = 3.74.
Does middle school GPA matter?
It's mostly a practice number — colleges don't see it. What it can affect is course placement: strong grades in 7th and 8th grade, especially in math, can put you on an advanced track (like Algebra I in 8th grade) that opens up more rigorous high school and AP options later. Think of it as building good habits, not as a permanent record.
