Unofficial estimate for planning only. Official applications require a WES/ECE credential evaluation; actual results vary by institution tier and course rigor.
How Nepal grades convert to US GPA
Nepal universities (e.g. Tribhuvan) traditionally mark in percentages with strict thresholds; +2 / NEB now uses a 4.0 GPA. Percentage marking is harsh, so figures read lower than US ones.
Grade equivalents at a glance
| Nepal grade | US GPA (est.) | Meaning |
|---|---|---|
| 80–100 (Distinction) | ~3.7–4.0 | Distinction |
| 65–79 (First Div.) | ~3.3–3.7 | First Division |
| 50–64 (Second Div.) | ~2.7–3.0 | Second Division |
| 40–49 (Pass) | ~2.0–2.3 | Pass |
| < 40 | 0.0 | Fail |
Is this competitive for US admission?
A Nepali First Division (65%+) is a strong result that converts well — do not read 65% as a US 65%. Most US programmes want a ~3.0 equivalent; confirm each one.
Credential evaluation (WES / ECE)
WES accounts for the strictness of Nepali percentage marking. Tribhuvan and other universities must send transcripts directly.
For the credit-weighted multi-course version, see the WES iGPA calculator. Indian students wanting a percentage instead can use the CGPA to percentage tool.
