How the South Korea grading scale works

Formula
Native GPA = sum(grade points x credits) / sum(credits) on 4.5. US approximation by per-letter band lookup (A+/A0 -> 4.0, B+ -> 3.5, B0 -> 3.0, C -> 2.0, D -> 1.0) — not a linear (native/4.5)x4, which is too harsh.
Worked example
A native 4.0/4.5 (A0) maps to 4.0 on the US 4.0 scale; a 3.6/4.5 maps to ~3.5.
