Indonesia GPA
& grading scale
Quick answer: Indonesian universities use a 4.0 GPA scale (IPK) where A=4.0 is best and E=0 is fail — the same direction as the US, so conversion is close to 1:1. Letter grades are weighted by SKS credits.

How the Indonesia grading scale works
Indonesian universities use a 4.0 GPA scale (IPK) where A=4.0 is best and E=0 is fail — the same direction as the US, so conversion is close to 1:1. Letter grades are weighted by SKS credits.
Grade scale
| Grade / range | Meaning (≈ US) |
|---|---|
| A (80–100) | Excellent — 4.0 |
| B (70–79) | Good — 3.0 |
| C (60–69) | Satisfactory — 2.0 |
| D (50–59) | Marginal pass — 1.0 |
| E (below 50) | Fail — 0.0 |
Formula
IPK = sum(grade point x SKS) / sum(SKS) on a 4.0 max. Because it is already a 4.0 GPA, the US GPA is essentially 1:1.
Worked example
An IPK of 3.5 maps directly to ~3.5 on the US 4.0 scale.
