How University of Guelph calculates GPA
University of Guelph (Ontario) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Guelph grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Guelph maps percentages to letters on a 4.0 scale (OUAC conversion): A+ (90-100%) and A (85-89%) BOTH equal 4.0 — A+ is capped. A-=3.7 (80-84), B+=3.3 (77-79), down to D-=0.7 (50-52), F=0 (below 50).
Failing grade: University of Guelph uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Minimum pass is D- (50%). Confirm repeat/grade-replacement handling and program-specific minimum grades with the registrar.
Academic standing
Minimum 2.0 to remain in good standing. Dean's Honour List requires a 3.70 semester GPA on a full 2.0-credit load.
Good to know
Guelph is percentage-based but maps to a standard 4.0 letter scale (A+ capped at 4.0, same as A) via the OUAC conversion table — A+ (90-100%) and A (85-89%) both give 4.0, with the full plus/minus ladder down to D- (50-52% = 0.7) and F below 50%. The transcript still shows the letter, which graduate and scholarship committees read beyond the GPA number.
