How University of Toronto calculates GPA
University of Toronto (Ontario) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The U of T grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Both A+ (90-100%) and A (85-89%) earn 4.0 — A+ is NOT boosted above 4.0 at U of T.
Failing grade: University of Toronto uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Repeat / late-withdrawal and GPA rules are set by each U of T faculty (Arts & Science, Engineering, etc.); confirm with your faculty registrar.
Academic standing
Dean's List threshold is commonly GPA >= 3.5, though exact criteria vary by faculty.
Good to know
U of T maps grades from percentage bands to a 4.0 scale: A+ (90-100) and A (85-89) both equal 4.0, A- (80-84) = 3.7, and so on. Because A+ is capped at 4.0, the maximum GPA is 4.0 — unlike UBC's 4.33.
