How University of Cincinnati calculates GPA
University of Cincinnati (Ohio) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Cincinnati grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Cincinnati uses a 4.0 plus/minus scale (plus/minus optional, as appropriate to the grading scale); A+ where used is capped at 4.0. Standard set down to D-=0.7, F=0.
Failing grade: University of Cincinnati uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
UW (unofficial withdrawal) and X both carry 0.0 quality points and count like F. An unresolved Incomplete converts to I/F (= F) after 350 days.
Academic standing
Minimum 2.0 GPA. Semester system (UC moved from quarters to semesters in 2012).
Good to know
Cincinnati uses a standard 4.0 plus/minus scale with A+ capped at 4.0; plus/minus is optional by instructor. A distinctive detail: both 'UW' (unofficial withdrawal) and 'X' grades carry zero quality points and hit the GPA exactly like an F, and an unresolved incomplete becomes an I/F after 350 days.
