How The Ohio State University calculates GPA
The Ohio State University (Ohio) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Ohio State grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Ohio State does NOT award A+ (and no D-). The scale runs A, A-, B+ ... D, then E for failing.
Failing grade: The Ohio State University uses "E" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Grade Forgiveness (since Autumn 2015): an undergraduate may petition to repeat up to three courses; the second grade permanently replaces the first in the GPA — even if the second grade is lower. Both grades stay on the transcript. Outside grade forgiveness, repeats count all attempts.
Academic standing
Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA for good standing / graduation.
Good to know
Ohio State uses 'E' (not 'F') for failing, and offers neither A+ nor D-. There's also EN (failing, stopped attending). Its Grade Forgiveness rule is notably generous: the retake grade replaces the original even if it's lower, for up to three courses.
