How University of Pittsburgh calculates GPA
University of Pittsburgh (Pennsylvania) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Pittsburgh grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Pitt uses a 4.0 plus/minus scale with 0.25-point steps; A+ and A are both 4.00 (A+ capped). Values: A-=3.75, B+=3.25, B=3.0, ... C+=2.25, ... D-=0.75, F=0.
Failing grade: University of Pittsburgh uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Most-recent-grade on a repeated course (earlier attempts stay on the transcript but are excluded from the GPA). You must re-enroll and pay for the repeated class.
Academic standing
Minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA for good standing; below 2.00 means probation. GPA ranges 0.00-4.00.
Good to know
Pitt uses the less-common 0.25-step plus/minus scale (A-=3.75, B+=3.25 rather than 3.7/3.3), with an A+ that's capped at 4.00 (no boost above A). On repeats, only the most recent grade counts toward the GPA, though earlier attempts stay visible on the transcript.
