How Purdue University calculates GPA
Purdue University (Indiana) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Purdue grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Purdue uses a standard 4.0 plus/minus scale; A+ and A both equal 4.0 (no boost above 4.0).
Failing grade: Purdue University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Purdue's grade-replacement policy: for an eligible repeated course, only the most recent grade counts in the GPA, though both attempts remain on the transcript.
Academic standing
Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA to graduate; Dean's List typically 3.5 with 12+ graded credits.
Good to know
Purdue uses the standard 4.0 plus/minus scale with A+ capped at 4.0. Its grade-replacement policy means a retake's most recent grade replaces the original in the GPA. Pass/Not-Pass, W, and audit grades don't count.
