How Texas A&M University calculates GPA
Texas A&M University (Texas) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Texas A&M grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Texas A&M does NOT use plus/minus in the GPA at all: A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, F = 0. An A- counts exactly the same as an A.
Failing grade: Texas A&M University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Both attempts of a repeated course stay on the record and BOTH are used in the GPA — an F isn't removed once you pass. If you repeat a course in which you already earned a B or better, you won't get grade points for the repeat (unless it's repeatable for credit).
Academic standing
A 2.0 cumulative GPA is the common minimum; a grade of U counts as an F in the GPA.
Good to know
The big Texas A&M difference: NO plus/minus in GPA. Whether your professor gives an A- or A+, it's a flat 4.0 (and a B- is a flat 3.0). This is unusual and trips up generic calculators that assume A- = 3.7. Q-drops (limited to 6 per undergraduate career) show as Q and carry no grade points.
