How Texas State University calculates GPA
Texas State University (Texas) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Texas State grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Texas State uses the four-point system with whole-letter grades: A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0 (U, withdrawn-failing, also = 0). No plus/minus in the GPA.
Failing grade: Texas State University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
On a repeated course, the last grade earned at Texas State counts toward the Texas State GPA. A 'Y' grade is used for fresh-start/academic bankruptcy.
Academic standing
Minimum 2.0 GPA. Transfer work is listed separately and no transfer GPA is printed on the transcript.
Good to know
Texas State uses a straight four-point system on whole letters — A=4, B=3, C=2, D=1, F=0 — with no plus/minus. On a repeat, the most recent Texas State grade is the one that counts toward the GPA, and the school has a fresh-start ('Y' grade) bankruptcy option.
