How Wayne State University calculates GPA
Wayne State University (Michigan) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Wayne State grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Wayne State uses a 4.0 plus/minus scale topping out at A=4.0 (no A+), with A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, D, D-, F (down to D-=0.7, F=0).
Failing grade: Wayne State University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Last-grade-on-repeat: when a course is repeated, the most recent grade and credits are used in the GPA. A class may not be attempted more than four times (advisor/chair permission needed for the 3rd and 4th).
Academic standing
Minimum 2.0 GPA; below 2.0 means Academic Probation. The Law School uses its own scale.
Good to know
Wayne State uses a standard 4.0 plus/minus scale with no A+, down to D-. On a repeat, only the most recent grade counts toward the GPA, and a course can't be attempted more than four times (the third and fourth attempts need advisor and chair permission).
