How University of Denver calculates GPA

University of Denver calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.

The Denver grade scale — what makes it specific

A+ rule: On the Denver scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.7.

Failing grade: University of Denver uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).

Repeated courses & grade replacement

All attempts count by default; a student may request GPA replacement for up to 4 undergraduate classes, in which case the latest attempt's grade replaces the most recent prior attempt in the cumulative GPA.

Good to know

DU runs on quarters, so Latin honors require 90 quarter hours at DU and magna/summa additionally require a thesis, project or departmental distinction beyond the GPA cutoff.

Every figure here was read from Denver’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
