How University of Memphis calculates GPA
University of Memphis calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Memphis grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Memphis scale, A+ is awarded but capped at 4.0, and there is no D-.
Failing grade: University of Memphis uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
When a course is repeated, the first attempt is excluded from the cumulative GPA; the second and later attempts are used.

Good to know
UofM's A- carries 3.84 quality points — an unusual value versus the 3.7/3.67 used almost everywhere else — and UofM assigns no D- grade at all.
Every figure here was read from Memphis’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
