THIS IS A COHORT-PAGE RECORD — TWO COHORTS WITH DIFFERENT CONVERSION RULES. Sardar Patel College of Engineering is a government-aided autonomous institute affiliated to the University of Mumbai, established 1962. The UGC granted autonomous status with effect from 2018-19 (UGC Status List as on 27.08.2024, entry #574; current validity window 2022-23 to 2031-32). COHORT 1 — PRE-AUTONOMOUS (students admitted up to A.Y. 2017-18): sat University of Mumbai examinations. UoM uses a PIECEWISE formula under Board of Examinations Circular (Resolution 27-08-2015): Percentage = 7.1 × CGPI + 12 when CGPI is below 7.0, and Percentage = 7.4 × CGPI + 12 when CGPI is 7.0 or above. At CGPI 8.0: 71.2%; CGPI 8.5: 74.9%. Source: same circular already backing mu_eng, sakec, kccoemsr, sigcegghansoli and the pre-autonomous cohorts of fcritvashi, aiktcpanvel and pcenewpanvel in this registry. COHORT 2 — AUTONOMOUS (students admitted from A.Y. 2018-19 onward): sit SPCE's own autonomous examinations. THE SPCE AUTONOMOUS CONVERSION IS STRUCTURALLY DIFFERENT: the full SPCE Academic Book (Examination Rules, AY 2020-21) was read in its entirety and contains NO CGPA-to-percentage conversion clause. This is not merely an oversight — the SPCE autonomous grading system uses RELATIVE GRADING (range-based), which by design has no fixed correspondence between grade points and marks. The grade for a course is computed from (Highest marks in cohort − Minimum passing marks) ÷ Number of possible grades, applied step-by-step. A CPI of 8.0 therefore does NOT correspond to a fixed percentage — it depends on the distribution of marks in each cohort. CPI = 8.0 at one intake could correspond to a different underlying mark distribution than CPI = 8.0 at another. NOTE CPI NOTATION: SPCE calls the cumulative index CPI, not CGPA. WHAT THIS MEANS PRACTICALLY: for the autonomous cohort (2018-19 onward), there may be no valid single-formula conversion. The correct route is to obtain a percentage certificate from the SPCE Controller of Examinations, who can reconstruct the underlying marks from the CAP records. Check whether the grade card itself carries a percentage — several Mumbai autonomous colleges print it there. This is the first record in the Maharashtra file where relative grading appears to structurally preclude a formula rather than merely leaving one unpublished. NOTE SPCE is GOVERNMENT-AIDED — it receives state funding, which means it has a different admissions and fee structure from private unaided colleges and participates in the Government quota CAP (DTE code 3014). The student reviews mix 'government college' and 'autonomous' correctly — both are true simultaneously.
