How McGill's GPA scale works

McGill University uses a 4.0 grade point scale. Like the University of Toronto — and unlike UBC — McGill does not lift A+ above 4.0, so 4.0 is the maximum GPA.

The McGill letter scale

A (85–100%) and A+ are both worth 4.0, A− (80–84%) is 3.7, B+ (75–79%) is 3.3, B (70–74%) is 3.0, and so on to F (0.0). The exact percentage bands can vary a little by faculty, but the 4.0 cap is consistent.

How the GPA is calculated

McGill computes a credit-weighted GPA (called the CGPA for the cumulative figure), multiplying grade points by course credits and dividing by total credits. A term figure and a cumulative figure are both reported.

Standing and honours
