Converting Bharathiar University percentage back to CGPA

Bharathiar University (Tamil Nadu) officially converts CGPA to percentage with % = CGPA × 10 (derived from the University's marks ÷ 10 grade-point table — not a stated conversion rule). This page inverts that formula so you can estimate the CGPA behind a known percentage. Enter your percentage above and the calculator solves for the CGPA on the 10-point scale.

Worked example

The official Bharathiar University formula is % = CGPA × 10 (derived from the University's marks ÷ 10 grade-point table — not a stated conversion rule). Starting from a percentage of 75%, the formula reverses to a CGPA of about 7.5 on the 10-point scale. You can check this by running 7.5 through the forward Bharathiar University CGPA to percentage calculator — it returns 75%, confirming the two directions agree.

Why this is an estimate, not an official figure

A college issues your percentage from your actual CGPA, not the other way around — so reversing the formula recovers the CGPA that would produce that percentage. When both numbers appear on your grade card, always quote the official CGPA rather than this estimate.

Source & verification

Bharathiar University — Examination Regulations 2021 (students admitted 2021-22 onwards, affiliated colleges), Clause 4.3–4.4: 'A candidate who secures a minimum of 7.5 out of 10 CGPA … shall be deemed to have passed … in FIRST CLASS WITH DISTINCTION' and '… a minimum of 6.0 out of 10 CGPA … in FIRST CLASS'; grade table (CBCS page and PG CBCS Regulations 2010-11): 90–100 → 9.0–10.0 (O), 80–89 → 8.0–8.9 (D+), 75–79 → 7.5–7.9 (D), 70–74 → 7.0–7.4 (A+), 60–69 → 6.0–6.9 (A), 50–59 → 5.0–5.9 (B), 00–49 → U.

NO EXPLICIT CONVERSION RULE: the University's regulations never say 'percentage = CGPA × 10'. They map marks to grade points in bands whose ranges run parallel to marks ÷ 10 (90–100 → 9.0–10.0, 80–89 → 8.0–8.9, … 50–59 → 5.0–5.9), and class cut-offs line up the same way (CGPA 6.0 ↔ 60% First Class, 7.5 ↔ 75% Distinction). CGPA × 10 therefore gives the credit-weighted average percentage. STATUS 'verified' (DERIVED): the formula is derived from the University's own published grade-point table, not quoted from a conversion rule — show 'Derived from the official grade-point table' on the page with a 'confirm against your mark statement' disclaimer. PRE-2010 WARNING: Bharathiar's 2007–09 regulations used a 7-point banded scale (H = 7.00 … F = 3.00) with percentage-based classes — ×10 does NOT apply to those batches. Current rules: First Class with Distinction CGPA ≥ 7.5 (all papers passed at first appearance), First Class ≥ 6.0; pass 40% UG / 50% PG. Frequently asked questions

What CGPA is 75% at Bharathiar University?

Is the reverse Bharathiar University CGPA exact?
It's a close estimate. The college calculates your percentage from your CGPA, so reversing the formula recovers it accurately — but transcript rounding can introduce a small difference.
