Worked example

Why this is an estimate, not an official figure
A college issues your percentage from your actual CGPA, not the other way around — so reversing the formula recovers the CGPA that would produce that percentage. When both numbers appear on your grade card, always quote the official CGPA rather than this estimate.

Cl. 9.8: To be eligible for the award of Master Degree, students must obtain a minimum final cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0. Cl. 9.9: To find percent equivalent to CGPA the following formula may be used; percent = CGPA X 10.

UG (FYUGP, 2023-24 onwards): the Chancellor's uniform Ordinance & Regulations for the 4-year B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. (Honours) programme (Governor's Secretariat letter No. BSU(UGC)-02/2023-687/GS(I), 15.05.2023, addressed to all universities of Bihar except BAU/BASU; 'for the Universities of Bihar including Patna University', effective 2023-24) says on p. 21: 'The following formula shall be used to find percentage equivalent to CGPA; % of marks = (CGPA)x10'. Read by OCR from the copy on the Raj Bhavan (Bihar Lok Bhavan) website on 2026-10-09 and accepted directly as the Chancellor's ordinance. The July 2026 amendment (No. L/ORD./03/2026-1414/GS(I)) changes only programme duration and exit options, not grading.
