Converting Periyar University, Salem percentage back to CGPA
Periyar University, Salem (Tamil Nadu) officially converts CGPA to percentage with % = CGPA × 10 (derived from the University's marks ÷ 10 grade-point table — not a stated conversion rule). This page inverts that formula so you can estimate the CGPA behind a known percentage. Enter your percentage above and the calculator solves for the CGPA on the 10-point scale.
Worked example
The official Periyar University, Salem formula is % = CGPA × 10 (derived from the University's marks ÷ 10 grade-point table — not a stated conversion rule). Starting from a percentage of 75%, the formula reverses to a CGPA of about 7.5 on the 10-point scale. You can check this by running 7.5 through the forward Periyar University, Salem CGPA to percentage calculator — it returns 75%, confirming the two directions agree.
Why this is an estimate, not an official figure
A college issues your percentage from your actual CGPA, not the other way around — so reversing the formula recovers the CGPA that would produce that percentage. When both numbers appear on your grade card, always quote the official CGPA rather than this estimate.
Source & verification
Periyar University — CBCS Regulations Hand Book (2019-20 onwards): 'Range of Marks / Grade Points: 90–100 → 9.0–10.0 (O), 80–89 → 8.0–8.9 (D+), 75–79 → 7.5–7.9 (D), 70–74 → 7.0–7.4 (A+), 60–69 → 6.0–6.9 (A), 50–59 → 5.0–5.9 (B), 00–49 → 0.0 (U)'; CGPA = Σ(grade points × credits) ÷ Σcredits; '6.0 and above but below 6.5 A [First Class]'.
NO EXPLICIT CONVERSION RULE: the University's regulations never say 'percentage = CGPA × 10'. They map marks to grade points in bands whose ranges run parallel to marks ÷ 10 (90–100 → 9.0–10.0, 80–89 → 8.0–8.9, … 50–59 → 5.0–5.9), and class cut-offs line up the same way (CGPA 6.0 ↔ 60% First Class, 7.5 ↔ 75% Distinction). CGPA × 10 therefore gives the credit-weighted average percentage. STATUS 'verified' (DERIVED): the formula is derived from the University's own published grade-point table, not quoted from a conversion rule — show 'Derived from the official grade-point table' on the page with a 'confirm against your mark statement' disclaimer. Periyar's UG regulations for affiliated colleges (2023-24) also state First Class = 60% aggregate and Distinction = 75%, and its distance-education (PRIDE) regulations evaluate performance by GPA, Weighted Average Marks and 'Overall Weighted Percentage of Marks (OWPM)' — where OWPM is printed on the statement it is the percentage to use. PG classification: 9.5–10.0 First Class – Exemplary; 8.0–9.5 First Class with Distinction; 6.0–8.0 First Class; 5.0–6.0 Second Class.
