Converting Presidency College (Autonomous), Chennai percentage back to CGPA
Presidency College (Autonomous), Chennai (Tamil Nadu) officially converts CGPA to percentage with % = CGPA × 10 (University of Madras rule — derived). This page inverts that formula so you can estimate the CGPA behind a known percentage. Enter your percentage above and the calculator solves for the CGPA on the 10-point scale.
Worked example
The official Presidency College (Autonomous), Chennai formula is % = CGPA × 10 (University of Madras rule — derived). Starting from a percentage of 74%, the formula reverses to a CGPA of about 7.4 on the 10-point scale. You can check this by running 7.4 through the forward Presidency College (Autonomous), Chennai CGPA to percentage calculator — it returns 74%, confirming the two directions agree.
Why this is an estimate, not an official figure
A college issues your percentage from your actual CGPA, not the other way around — so reversing the formula recovers the CGPA that would produce that percentage. When both numbers appear on your grade card, always quote the official CGPA rather than this estimate.
Source & verification
Presidency College (Autonomous), Chennai — Office of the Controller of Examinations, 'Evaluation Mechanism and Process' (Examination Rules), GRADING SYSTEM: 'Grading and CGPA is as per University of Madras norms.' and 'The college follows the rules and regulations of the University of Madras.'
Autonomous, but its own examination rules adopt the University of Madras grading and CGPA norms, so it follows the Madras entry (×10, derived from Madras's marks ÷ 10 grade-point table). Not Presidency College, Bengaluru.
