Why this is an estimate, not an official figure
A college issues your percentage from your actual CGPA, not the other way around — so reversing the formula recovers the CGPA that would produce that percentage. When both numbers appear on your grade card, always quote the official CGPA rather than this estimate.

PRMITR — Examination Rules and Procedure for UG and PG Programmes under Autonomy, A.Y. 2024-25 (V1.1), section 25.5 “CGPA to equivalent Percentage Conversion”
Prof. Ram Meghe Institute of Technology and Research is an autonomous institute affiliated to Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, autonomous from A.Y. 2023-24 vide UGC order No. F. 2-10/2023 (AC-Policy) dated 31 May 2023 and SGBAU Notification No. 74/2023 dated 12 June 2023 (UGC Status List as on 27.08.2024, entry #542; valid to 2032-33). Its own Examination Rules state at section 25.5: “CGPA to equivalent Percentage Conversion — % = (CGPA * 9.5)”. INTERNAL CORROBORATION: the institute's own class thresholds anchor cleanly under this multiplier — Distinction at CGPA 7.9 gives 75.05%, and First Class at CGPA 6.32 gives 60.04%, the conventional 75% and 60% bars. Class bands (section 25.6, per AICTE guidelines): CGPA 7.9 or above Distinction Class; 6.32 or above First Class; 5.0 to below 6.32 Pass; below 5.0 Fail. RELATIVE GRADING IS THE DEFAULT (section 25): grades are awarded from the mean and standard deviation of the cohort, with bands at M+1.5σ, M+1σ, M+0.5σ and so on. Absolute grading is used only where fewer than THIRTY examinees sit the End Semester Examination, such as programme electives, or for some M.Tech courses. Because grading is normally relative, the published percentage is an administrative equivalence rather than a reconstruction of your actual marks. UNUSUAL GRADE POINTS — note these are NOT integers: AA 10, AB 9, BB 8.25, BC 7.5, CC 6.75, CD 6, DD 5, FF 0. Any external estimate assuming a standard 10/9/8/7/6/5 scale will be wrong. Assessment is Teacher Assessment 10 plus Mid Semester Examination 30 plus End Semester Examination 60; B.Tech passing needs 40% of the combined total. INCENTIVE MARKS for NSS, NCC, inter-collegiate and inter-university tournaments, cultural activities and blood donation are added to the SGPA after multiplying by 0.025 if not used for passing, so a CGPA may include a small non-academic component. Degrees are awarded by SGBAU bearing the institute's name. Students admitted up to A.Y. 2022-23 sat SGBAU examinations, whose own conversion remains unresolved — see the DRGITR and JCOET records.
