Worked example
The official University of Rajasthan (UoR), Jaipur formula is Piecewise (6-point CGPA, O.199F): 5.50–6.00 → 75 + (CGPA − 5.5) × 50; 4.50–5.49 → 65 + (CGPA − 4.5) × 10; 3.50–4.49 → 55 + (CGPA − 3.5) × 10; 2.50–3.49 → 45 + (CGPA − 2.5) × 10; 1.50–2.49 → 33 + (CGPA − 1.5) × 12; 0.50–1.49 → 25 + (CGPA − 0.5) × 8; 0–0.49 → CGPA × 50. Starting from a percentage of 86.5%, the formula reverses to a CGPA of about 5.73 on the 6-point scale. Why this is an estimate, not an official figure
A college issues your percentage from your actual CGPA, not the other way around — so reversing the formula recovers the CGPA that would produce that percentage. When both numbers appear on your grade card, always quote the official CGPA rather than this estimate.

UoR's older CBCS grading runs on a 6-point scale (O = 6), so ×10 or ×9.5 is badly wrong. The official table converts piecewise: each CGPA band maps linearly onto its own percentage band.
