State scholarship GPA calculators
State merit scholarships recalculate your high school GPA with their own rules. Each calculator here follows the state agency’s or legislature’s published method.
Georgia HOPE & Zell Miller
GSFC recalculates a HOPE GPA from your core courses only (English, math, science, social studies, foreign language): A = 4, B = 3, C = 2, D = 1, F = 0, with no plus or minus.
ScholarshipFlorida Bright Futures
Bright Futures uses an unrounded, weighted GPA in 16 college-preparatory credits: 4 English, 4 math, 3 natural science, 3 social science and 2 of one world language.
ScholarshipSouth Carolina LIFE & Palmetto Fellows
South Carolina scholarships use the Uniform Grading Policy (UGP) GPA.
ScholarshipKentucky KEES
KEES pays a base amount for each high school year with a qualifying GPA — $125 for a 2.50 up to $500 for a 4.00 — plus a one-off ACT bonus of $36 (ACT 15) to $500 (ACT 28+).
ScholarshipLouisiana TOPS
TOPS uses a core GPA from the courses that satisfy the TOPS Core Curriculum, at most 19 units: A = 4 to F = 0, or A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2 on the designated AP, IB, honors, gifted and dual enrollment courses.
ScholarshipWhy your scholarship GPA differs from your transcript
- Georgia counts only core courses, ignores plus and minus, counts every attempt, and adds 0.5 for AP, IB and dual enrollment but not on an A or for honors.
- Florida uses 16 college-preparatory credits, weighted +0.25 per semester for AP, IB, AICE, honors and dual enrollment.
- South Carolina converts numeric averages on the Uniform Grading Policy, a tenth of a point per mark, with +0.5 and +1.0 weights.
- Kentucky pays a fixed amount for each school year by GPA, and the 2026-28 budget raised the minimum to 2.75.
- Louisiana uses only TOPS core courses, the highest grade of a retake, and a 5.00 scale for designated advanced courses.
These are unofficial estimates, checked on 2026-10-01. Each state agency makes the official determination.
