Cal Poly SLO GPA
How California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo calculates GPA
California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo (California) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Cal Poly SLO grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Cal Poly uses a 4.0 plus/minus scale (A=4.0, A-=3.7, B+=3.3, down to D-=0.7, F=0). Beginning Fall 2026 an A+ can be awarded, but it is capped at 4.0 for the Cal Poly GPA (it does not raise the local GPA above 4.0).
Failing grade: California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Grade forgiveness/repeat per CSU policy. Quarter system. Earned hours exclude F, WU, and NC.
Academic standing
Minimum 2.0 GPA for good standing; below 2.0 means Academic Notice. CSU campus, but note it DOES award an A+ (capped) unlike most CSUs.
Good to know
Cal Poly SLO uses a standard 4.0 plus/minus scale on the quarter system. Unusually for a CSU campus, it awards an A+ (starting Fall 2026) — but the A+ is capped at 4.0 and does not lift the Cal Poly GPA above 4.0, so it behaves like a standard A+-capped scale here. External recalculators (e.g. for grad school) may still treat that A+ as higher.
