How Case Western Reserve University calculates GPA
Case Western Reserve University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Case Western Reserve grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Case Western Reserve scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.
Failing grade: Case Western Reserve University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
All attempts count: the original grade is not replaced, though credit is earned only once and the transcript notes REPEATED: NO CREDIT AWARDED.
Academic standing
failure to meet good standing, which requires a semester GPA of 2.000 or higher and a minimum of 12 credit hours earned (9 in the first semester; part-time students need only the 2.000 semester GPA)
Latin honors at graduation
Case Western Reserve University awards Latin honors by rank in the graduating class, not by a fixed GPA, so the GPA that earns each honor moves from year to year.

GPA thresholds behind the percentiles are recalculated each year from the GPAs of students who graduated over the past five years.
Dean’s List
Case Western Reserve University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.500 (Dean's Honors List); 3.750 (Dean's High Honors List) with a minimum of 12 credit hours earned, with no Fs or NPs.
Academic probation and dismissal
Probation: failure to meet good standing, which requires a semester GPA of 2.000 or higher and a minimum of 12 credit hours earned (9 in the first semester; part-time students need only the 2.000 semester GPA).
Dismissal: considered for separation on a semester GPA below 1.000 OR fewer than 9 credit hours earned (first semester: below 1.000 AND fewer than 9 hours), or after failing good standing for two consecutive semesters.

Good to know
Latin honors are awarded by rank in the graduating class (top 10%, next 10%, next 15%) rather than by fixed GPA cutoffs, and undergraduate grades have no plus/minus at all.
