How University of Central Oklahoma calculates GPA

University of Central Oklahoma calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.

The Central Oklahoma grade scale — what makes it specific

A+ rule: On the Central Oklahoma scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.

Failing grade: University of Central Oklahoma uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).

Repeated courses & grade replacement

A student may repeat any course up to 4 attempts; only the highest grade earned of those attempts is used in the GPA (replacement, not averaging).

Academic standing

Retention GPA below 1.7 (0-29 credit hours attempted) or below 2.0 (30 or more hours attempted)

Latin honors at graduation

HonorRequirement
Cum Laude3.7-3.79
Magna Cum Laude3.8-3.89
Summa Cum Laude3.9 or higher

Dean’s List

University of Central Oklahoma names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.50 with 12 or more semester hours of regularly graded (A, B) residence credit.

No grade below B; excludes marks of I, F, N, or U

Academic probation and dismissal

Academic probation: Retention GPA below 1.7 (0-29 credit hours attempted) or below 2.0 (30 or more hours attempted).

Dismissal: Suspended if retention GPA is not raised to the required level after a probationary semester; suspended twice requires a 2.0 GPA elsewhere before return.

The minimum cumulative GPA depends on how far through the degree a student is:

Class levelCumulative GPA
0 through 29 semester hours— (retention gpa 1.7)
30 or greater semester hours— (retention gpa 2.0)

Good to know

UCO allows up to 4 attempts per course, using only the single highest grade earned toward the GPA.

Every figure here was read from Central Oklahoma’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
