How Chapman University calculates GPA
Chapman University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Chapman grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Chapman scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.7.
Failing grade: Chapman University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
For most 100-499 level undergraduate courses, a retake replaces the grade in GPA: only the higher grade and its credit are computed, though the lower grade remains on the record with a repeat notation.

Good to know
Chapman does award Latin honors by fixed GPA (cum laude 3.500+) with a 54-credit residency requirement, but its catalog's Academic Policies section never mentions a Dean's List, and it uses 'Academic Notice' rather than 'probation' as the term for falling below a 2.000 GPA.
