How East Carolina University calculates GPA
East Carolina University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The East Carolina grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the East Carolina scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.7.
Failing grade: East Carolina University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Grade Replacement Policy: a student may replace up to four grades earned as C-, D+, D, D- or F (across up to four courses or repeats). The original grade stays on the transcript but is excluded from GPA; the replacement (or last) grade stands.

Dean’s List
East Carolina University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.5 with no grade below C (2.0), no incompletes, full-time.
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation: cumulative GPA below 2.0 after a semester of academic warning.
Dismissal: cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 at the end of a probation semester (unless that semester's GPA is at least 2.5, which keeps the student on probation).

Good to know
ECU also runs a separate 'Chancellor's List' (perfect 4.0) above its Dean's List, plus an 'Honor Roll' at 3.0.
Every figure here was read from East Carolina’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
