How Fordham University calculates GPA
Fordham University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Fordham grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Fordham scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.
Failing grade: Fordham University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Academic standing
semester or cumulative GPA below 2.000
Dean’s List
Fordham University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.600 combined fall+spring GPA with varies by school — Fordham College at Rose Hill/Lincoln Center and Gabelli (Full-Time) 24 combined credits; Gabelli (Part-Time/Evening) 18; School of Professional and Continuing Studies 12; no minimum required per individual term.
Threshold applies across undergraduate schools but the combined-credit minimum differs by school.
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation: semester or cumulative GPA below 2.000.
Dismissal: dismissal GPA floor varies by credits earned; also triggered by a 1.000 or lower GPA in any single semester, or three consecutive semesters on probation.
The minimum cumulative GPA depends on how far through the degree a student is:
| Class level | Cumulative GPA |
|---|---|
| 0-29 credits | 1.350 |
| 30-59 credits | 1.550 |
| 60-89 credits | 1.700 |
| 90+ credits | 2.000 |
Fordham College at Rose Hill specifically; the bulletin directs other undergraduate colleges (Lincoln Center, Gabelli, PCS) to their own chapters for probation/dismissal policy.

Good to know
Fordham's undergraduate Dean's List uses a combined fall+spring GPA of 3.600 rather than a single-term cutoff, with no fixed minimum credits required in any one term.
Every figure here was read from Fordham’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
