Hofstra University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Hofstra grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Hofstra scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there is no D-.
Failing grade: Hofstra University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
A repeated course replaces the original: the first grade stays on the transcript but is excluded from the GPA.

Dean’s List
Hofstra University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.5 with 12 hours per semester in letter grades other than P, with no grades of INC (part-time: 12 hours over the two most recent semesters in attendance).
Only courses taken in residence at Hofstra count toward the requirement.
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation: cumulative average below 2.00.
Dismissal: may be subject to dismissal after two semesters on probation.
