How University of Houston calculates GPA
University of Houston (Texas) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Houston grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: Houston uses a 4.0 plus/minus scale with NO A+ boost — A = 4.00 is the maximum. Values are A-=3.67, B+=3.33, down to D-=0.67, F=0.
Failing grade: University of Houston uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
All graded attempts are included in the GPA unless a specific documented exception applies.
Academic standing
Minimum 2.0 GPA for good standing. Houston truncates the GPA to two decimals (not rounded).
Good to know
Houston uses a 4.0 plus/minus scale that tops out at A = 4.00 (no A+ boost) and runs to D- = 0.67. The GPA is truncated to two decimals rather than rounded, and by default all graded attempts — including repeats — count toward the GPA.
