How Indiana Wesleyan University-National and Global calculates GPA
Indiana Wesleyan University-National and Global calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Indiana Wesleyan grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Indiana Wesleyan scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there is no D-.
Failing grade: Indiana Wesleyan University-National and Global uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
An undergraduate course in which a grade below C was earned may be repeated; the last grade and credits replace the previous grade in the GPA.
Academic standing
Cumulative GPA below 2.00-2.75 for baccalaureate programs (2.00-2.70 for associate; program-specific), or a major GPA below 2.25-2.75 for baccalaureate programs
Latin honors at graduation
| Honor | Requirement |
|---|---|
| cum laude | 3.5 |
| magna cum laude | 3.7 |
| summa cum laude | 3.9 |
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation: Cumulative GPA below 2.00-2.75 for baccalaureate programs (2.00-2.70 for associate; program-specific), or a major GPA below 2.25-2.75 for baccalaureate programs.
Dismissal: Suspension if probation is not cleared within two consecutive courses; a second academic suspension in the same program means dismissal from the university.

Good to know
In National & Global, Latin honors go to bachelor's candidates only and require 40 graded hours taken at IWU, and the probation threshold is set per program rather than by a single university GPA floor; the probation clock runs in courses (two consecutive) rather than semesters.
Every figure here was read from Indiana Wesleyan’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
