How Kent State University calculates GPA
Kent State University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Kent State grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Kent State scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there is no D-.
Failing grade: Kent State University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
For most courses, only the highest grade and its credit hours count toward the GPA when a course is repeated. Exception: for Latin honors determination and for admission/progression decisions, all attempts at all grades are used. Repeatable-for-credit courses count all attempts.

Good to know
For Latin honors only, Kent State counts every attempt of a repeated course (not just the highest grade), unlike the GPA used for standing and graduation eligibility otherwise.
Every figure here was read from Kent State’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
