How Lehigh University calculates GPA
Lehigh University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Lehigh grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Lehigh scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.7.
Failing grade: Lehigh University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Only the most recent grade counts; the original grade and its credits are excluded from the cumulative average.
Academic standing
Term GPA below 1.7 (students with fewer than 19 completed credit hours); good standing requires a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0
Latin honors at graduation
| Honor | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Honors | 3.40 |
| High Honors | 3.60 |
| Highest Honors | 3.80 |
Dean’s List
Lehigh University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.60 with 12 hours of regularly graded courses.
Academic probation and dismissal
Scholastic probation: Term GPA below 1.7 (students with fewer than 19 completed credit hours); good standing requires a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0.
Dismissal: Term GPA less than 1.7 may result in academic suspension.
The minimum cumulative GPA depends on how far through the degree a student is:
| Class level | Cumulative GPA |
|---|---|
| fewer than 19 completed | term GPA 2.0 good standing; 1.7-1.99 scholastic warning; below 1.7 probation or suspension |
| 19 or more completed | cumulative GPA 2.0 for good standing |

Good to know
Lehigh labels its graduation honors Honors, High Honors and Highest Honors rather than the Latin cum laude terms.
Every figure here was read from Lehigh’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
