How Louisiana State University calculates GPA
Louisiana State University (Louisiana) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The LSU grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: LSU uses plus/minus grading; per LSU policy the cumulative GPA is capped at 4.0 (all A+ grades still yield a 4.0). A+ and A are both 4.0; full set down to D-=0.7, F=0.
Failing grade: Louisiana State University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
LSU has a Grade Exclusion Policy allowing certain D/F courses to be excluded from the GPA. The Law Center uses its own scale.
Academic standing
Minimum 2.0 GPA. Note: for the Louisiana TOPS scholarship, A+ is reported as A (TOPS doesn't accept +/-).
Good to know
LSU adopted plus/minus grading, and although an A+ earns +0.3 per course, LSU's official cumulative GPA is capped at 4.0 — a student with all A+ grades has a 4.0. So for the reported GPA this calculator caps A+ at 4.0. LSU also has a Grade Exclusion Policy for removing some D/F courses from the GPA.
