How Marist University calculates GPA
Marist University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Marist grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Marist scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there is no D-.
Failing grade: Marist University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
A retake at Marist replaces the original: the higher of the two grades is used in the cumulative index and the lower course's quality points are removed from the record; no additional credits are earned. A repeat taken at another institution adds credits but no quality points.
Academic standing
Failure to achieve either a 2.0 semester or a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average triggers Academic Standards Committee review and possible notice or restriction

Dean’s List
Marist University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.60 with 12 academic credits graded on the A-F scale; disqualified by any I, D, F or W/F grade during the semester.
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic restriction (Marist uses notice, restriction, or dismissal rather than probation): Failure to achieve either a 2.0 semester or a 2.0 cumulative grade-point average triggers Academic Standards Committee review and possible notice or restriction.
Dismissal: Students who fail to meet the minimum academic standards of the University during any semester may be dismissed.

Good to know
Dean's List eligibility is voided by any I, D, F or W/F grade at any point in the semester, and summa and magna cum laude carry a floor-grade condition (no grade below B and no grade below C respectively) on top of the GPA cutoff.
