How University of Maryland Global Campus calculates GPA
University of Maryland Global Campus calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The UMGC grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the UMGC scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all — only A, B, C, D and F.
Failing grade: University of Maryland Global Campus uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Retaking a course replaces the original grade with the higher grade for cumulative GPA purposes; both attempts remain listed on the academic record.

Good to know
UMGC's undergraduate scale uses only whole-letter grades (A, B, C, D, F) with no plus/minus grades at all.
Every figure on this page was read from UMGC’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so rather than presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
