How Maryville University of Saint Louis calculates GPA
Maryville University of Saint Louis calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Maryville grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Maryville scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.
Failing grade: Maryville University of Saint Louis uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Grade replacement. If a course is repeated, only the higher grade is used for degree credit and in the cumulative GPA; the lower grade is removed from the GPA calculation but both grades stay on the transcript.
Academic standing
Cumulative GPA below 2.0 places the student on academic probation for one semester
Latin honors at graduation
| Honor | Requirement |
|---|---|
| cum laude | 3.50 |
| magna cum laude | 3.70 |
| summa cum laude | 3.80 |
Dean’s List
Maryville University of Saint Louis names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.5 with 12 Maryville University hours in the fall, spring or summer semester, with no single grade below a B-.
Deans' List for full-time undergraduates; part-time students carrying at least 6 credits qualify for a parallel Academic Honors List at the same 3.5 GPA
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation: Cumulative GPA below 2.0 places the student on academic probation for one semester.
Dismissal: Academic suspension if the cumulative GPA is not raised to 2.0 by the end of the probation semester; a student whose semester GPA reaches 2.0 gets one additional semester. Reinstatement considered after two consecutive semesters.

Good to know
Maryville runs a second term-honors roll, the Academic Honors List, for part-time students at the same 3.5 GPA but with a 6-credit minimum.
Every figure here was read from Maryville’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
