How North Carolina State University calculates GPA
North Carolina State University (North Carolina) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The NC State grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: NC State assigns an A+ 4.333 quality points internally, but the officially REPORTED GPA is capped at 4.0. This calculator uses the 4.0-capped reported scale (A+ = 4.0, A = 4.0, A- = 3.667, down to D- = 0.667, F = 0).
Failing grade: North Carolina State University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Repeat/grade-exclusion follows NC State policy; confirm with the registrar. GPA is carried to three decimals internally.
Academic standing
Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. Below 2.0 leads to academic warning/probation.
Good to know
NC State has a subtle quirk: an A+ is worth 4.333 quality points internally (a small cushion that can offset a lower grade), but your officially reported cumulative GPA is still capped at 4.0. This calculator uses the reported 4.0-capped scale, so an A+ shows as 4.0; the rest is a standard three-decimal plus/minus set down to D-.
