How University of North Alabama calculates GPA

University of North Alabama calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.

The North Alabama grade scale — what makes it specific

A+ rule: On the North Alabama scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.

Failing grade: University of North Alabama uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).

Repeated courses & grade replacement

All attempts count in the GPA by default: the highest grade counts toward progress but every grade remains in the GPA. A separate Repeat/Recompute application lets a student exclude up to three repeated courses.

Academic standing

UNA institutional GPA below 2.00 (students who have attempted more than 18 hours at UNA)

Dean’s List

University of North Alabama names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.50 with full-time status, no grade of F, I or IP that semester.

Academic probation and dismissal

Academic probation: UNA institutional GPA below 2.00 (students who have attempted more than 18 hours at UNA).

Dismissal: Academic suspension for one semester if, while on probation, the student fails both a 2.00 institutional GPA and a 2.00 term GPA.

Good to know

UNA uses no plus/minus grades at all, and repeated courses stay in the GPA unless the student applies to have up to three of them recomputed.

Every figure here was read from North Alabama’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
