How Northwestern State University of Louisiana calculates GPA
Northwestern State University of Louisiana calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Northwestern State grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Northwestern State scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there are no plus or minus grades at all.
Failing grade: Northwestern State University of Louisiana uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
All attempts count: every grade earned in a repeated course is included in the cumulative GPA. A separate graduation GPA divides adjusted quality points by adjusted quality hours, which subtract quality points/hours for repeated classes (and hours for F grades). The catalog says nothing about whether that GPA appears on transcripts.

Good to know
Every attempt at a repeated course counts in the cumulative GPA; NSU keeps a separate “graduation GPA” that subtracts repeats, and it never appears on the transcript.
Every figure here was read from Northwestern State’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so instead of presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
