How New York University calculates GPA
New York University (New York) calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course's grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The NYU grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: NYU uses the standard plus/minus scale; A+ where awarded does not exceed 4.0.
Failing grade: New York University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).

Latin honors at graduation
New York University awards Latin honors by rank in the graduating class, not by a fixed GPA, so the GPA that earns each honor moves from year to year.

Dean’s List
New York University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.65 or higher for the academic year (September to May) with at least 28 graded credits for that academic year.
Academic probation and dismissal
Academic Concern Notices (First/Second/Third/Final Notice): cumulative or semester GPA falls below 2.0, entering an escalating series of academic concern notices.
Dismissal: after the second semester enrolled, may be dismissed for completing fewer than 50% of attempted credit hours; Final Notice is the last warning before dismissal.

Good to know
An NYU-specific quirk: since a 2018 Senate resolution, NYU reports GPA to THREE decimal places (e.g. 3.472) on the transcript, not the usual two. Grading policies can differ by school within NYU (Stern, Tisch, Law, etc.).
