How Ohio University calculates GPA

Ohio University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.

The Ohio University grade scale — what makes it specific

A+ rule: On the Ohio University scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.67.

Failing grade: Ohio University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).

Repeated courses & grade replacement

A retake's grade replaces the earlier one in the GPA even if lower; undergraduates may retake a course at most twice beyond the first attempt (since Summer 2010-11).

Good to know

The probation/dismissal GPA table found is the College of Arts & Sciences' own credit-tiered standard (1.6 at 0-29 credits rising to 2.0 at 90+); other Ohio University colleges set their own thresholds, so this is not a university-wide figure.

Every figure on this page was read from Ohio University’s own registrar or catalog. Where a rule is set by an individual college rather than the institution, the page says so rather than presenting one college’s number as everyone’s.
