How University of Rhode Island calculates GPA
University of Rhode Island calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Rhode Island grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Rhode Island scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and there is no D-.
Failing grade: University of Rhode Island uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
By default, all attempts count: the original grade remains part of the QPA when a course is repeated, unless the student uses the limited 'Second Grade Option,' which replaces the original grade under specific conditions.

Dean’s List
University of Rhode Island names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.30–3.79 with 12 or more credits for letter grades.
Academic probation and dismissal
Scholastic probation: overall cumulative scholastic average below 2.00.
Dismissal: dismissal at end of third semester of probation, or a deficiency of 8+ quality points below a 2.00 average after a probation semester; below 1.00 average in first semester triggers automatic dismissal.
