How Rowan University calculates GPA

Rowan University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.

The Rowan grade scale — what makes it specific

A+ rule: On the Rowan scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.7.

Failing grade: Rowan University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).

Repeated courses & grade replacement

When a course is repeated (at Rowan or transferred from elsewhere) for a higher grade, prior attempts are excluded from the cumulative GPA but remain on the transcript.

Dean’s List

Rowan University names students to its Dean’s List at a term GPA of 3.450 with 12 semester hours of letter grades in any one semester.

Academic probation and dismissal

Academic Notice: cumulative GPA below 2.0 after attempting 12 or more semester hours (Academic Notice 1).

Dismissal: Academic Suspension if cumulative GPA remains below 2.0 while on Academic Notice 2 / Continued Academic Notice 2.
