How Sonoma State University calculates GPA
Sonoma State University calculates GPA as a credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credits, add them up, and divide by total credits. The detail that matters is the grade scale.
The Sonoma State grade scale — what makes it specific
A+ rule: On the Sonoma State scale, there is no A+ — A = 4.0 is the top grade, and the scale runs down to D- at 0.7.
Failing grade: Sonoma State University uses "F" for a failing grade (0.0).
Repeated courses & grade replacement
Grade replacement (forgiveness) for up to 16 units: only the second attempt's grade and units count in the SSU GPA, even if the second grade is lower. Beyond that, a student may repeat an additional 12 semester units under grade averaging, where all grades for the course are calculated in the SSU GPA; units count once toward graduation.

Cumulative GPA at Sonoma State OR cumulative GPA in all college work attempted falls below 2.0 (undergraduate); 3.0 for graduate, credential and post-baccalaureate students.

Academic probation and dismissal
Academic probation: Cumulative GPA at Sonoma State OR cumulative GPA in all college work attempted falls below 2.0 (undergraduate); 3.0 for graduate, credential and post-baccalaureate students..
Dismissal: Academic disqualification after at least one semester on probation if the cumulative GPA (at SSU or in all college work attempted) falls below the class-level minimum for a second successive term. A student not on probation may also be disqualified with a cumulative GPA below 1.0..

Good to know
Sonoma grants grade replacement on the first 16 repeated units - the second grade counts even if it is lower - then averages all attempts for the next 12 units, and its disqualification GPA rises with class level from 1.50 to 1.95.
